Why Should I Become a Volunteer?
Little League Baseball is an organization designed to build good citizens. It is a program of leadership, preparing today's youth to be tomorrow's leaders. At the local level, Little League relies on a devoted legion of adult volunteers to help ensure that the organization remains structured and runs smoothly. ANSLL is always looking for responsible and enthusiastic individuals to support and coordinate Little League events and activities. As a volunteer, you should have a keen interest in the safety, well-being, and overall development of children.
Volunteer Opportunities are Endless!
Team Manager or Coach:
Being a manager or coach requires time, patience, and basic knowledge of the game of baseball. Each team has a manager and up to two coaches. Team managers and coaches be required to attend meetings and instructional sessions, including Rules and Safety meetings at the start of the Season, and coaching clinics will be offered as well. You, in conjunction with the website notices, will communicate with the parents/guardians of your players to inform them of any schedule changes, rainouts, and Little League events and activities.
As a manager or coach, you have more interaction with young people than anyone else in Little League. Therefore, it is important that you understand the goals and virtues of the Little League program in order to effectively communicate them to your players. If you are interested in managing or coaching, please contact your league's president email [email protected].
Board Members - (Year-round)
Board Members are elected by the ANSLL Members at the October General Membership meeting held just prior to the Board meeting. Board positions are assigned at the Board Meeting by the newly elected Board Members. If you would like to become a Board Member email [email protected].
League Commissioners
A commissioner is needed for each level of play from Teeball to Majors (6 total). Each commissioner works with the Director of League Operations (DOLO) to serve as the primary means of communication between the league and managers during the season. Along with the DOLO, commissioners oversee the individual fields assigned to their leagues including helping to monitor field conditions in inclement weather, work with the managers to ensure that makeup games are rescheduled in a timely manner, distribute evaluations to managers and parents at end of season and help resolve minor disputes and conflicts that may arise within their respective divisions. At the older levels (AA- Majors), commissioners are also responsible for ensuring that pitch counts are properly recorded on the website and that umpires are notified when games are cancelled. Commissioners are not assigned to the same level where their child is playing.
Adult Volunteer Umpire
The goal of Little League is to have all games officiated by trained adult volunteer umpires. If you watch the Little League World Series, you see many men and women continuing to enjoy the game of baseball, long after their playing days are over, by becoming a volunteer umpire. If you have watched any of ANSLL's AA, AAA, or Majors games, you see the impact trained umpires on the field have on the quality of the game. While we have many excellent youth umpires who work tirelessly to provide quality umpiring, the game experience is greatly enhanced with trained adult umpires on the field. With that in mind, we encourage parents to become fully-trained volunteer umpires. Training takes place in late February or early March. More information about becoming an Adult Volunteer Umpire can be found on the Umpire page on the ANSLL website.
Team Parent Umpire
Each team in AA, AAA, and Majors needs to identify at least one parent to serve the role of Team Parent Umpire. The Team Parent Umpire will handle umpiring duties when two fully trained umpires are not available to work your child's AA, AAA, or Majors game. Team Parent Umpires will attend a three hour on-field training session in late March. The training will cover basic rules and field mechanics. While the Team Parent Umpire should not expect to work many games during the season, it is important to have someone ready to step in when needed.
Adult Game Coordinator
Each team in AA, AAA, and Majors needs to identify a parent to serve the role of Adult Game Coordinator for the team. This person needs to be present at all games where no adult umpire is working their child's game. This means that the game has one or two youth umpires working the game. The role of the Adult Game Coordinator is to oversee the conduct of all players, managers, coached, spectators, and umpires in the game. This person is there as an advocate for the youth umpire(s). This person needs to be present during the entire game and attend the pre-game conference.
Team Parent
While the managers and coaches handle things on the field the Team Parent does much of the off-the-field coordination. A team parent typically coordinates:
Post-game snack schedules
Team Parties
Team Banner
Team emails/phone trees
Team Photos
Trophies

Field maintenance
ANSLL Little League is on an adopt a field program which holds our members responsible for the majority of our field maintenance. Field Maintenance Day is comprised of a number of activities including painting, cleaning, weeding the infield, sodding the foul lines, putting in new infield dirt, prepare the fields for better drainage and other activities that help get our fields in shape for the up-coming season. We are grateful to anyone who can come out and volunteer for this activity.
Opening and closing ceremonies.
The ANSLL Opening Day Ceremony are on the first Saturday of games at 10am at Pine Ridge Park. Teams will line up at 9:30 am. Our Opening Day parade has been a tradition at ANSLL for over fifty years.
Volunteers are needed to help with:
Table set-up.
Serving refreshments.
Merchandising - t-shirts and magnets.
Clean-up.
*Kids needing community service hours are welcomed to participate in helping!
Please consider donating a small amount of time to help with this even. It won’t happen without your help!. There is a lot of pre-planning that goes into this event and we need help not only during the event, but also in the month leading up to it.
Player Clinics Coordinator
Every spring ANSLL looks for opportunities to host or conduct clinics to further develop players’ skills. The Player Clinics Coordinator will work with the Coaching Coordinator and other members of the ANSLL Board to identify player clinic needs and opportunities, identify and contact potential instructors (usually local high school coaches), help instructors develop and determine the scope of the clinic, coordinate the scheduling of field time with ANSLL’s Director of League Operations, invite or spread the word to participants and coaches, administer the registration of participants, recruit any ANSLL volunteers needed to help with the clinic, ensure the proper equipment is on hand, and welcome instructors and track attendance on the day of the clinic. In the past, ANSLL has done pitching and catching clinics for the AA through Majors level.
